Canada is known for its diverse population but how well are these groups supported within our healthcare system? The COVID-19 pandemic has shed light on existing knowledge gaps that directly impact the way we practice cultural competency within our profession. Additionally, social justice movements have made dietetic students and professionals reconsider how they learn and practice anti-racist and equity-based approaches. This presentation will go over these knowledge gaps and shed light on how they may increase health disparities within diverse communities as well as reflect on issues faced by BIPOC dietetic professionals and students.
You will learn:
- How to apply cultural competency aspects in your education and practice tools
- Reflective approaches to address implicit and unconscious bias
- Approaches to advocacy for combatting anti-Black racism in education and practice settings
