Watch Party: Weight-Inclusive Care for PCOS
Watch Parties are a dedicated time where we can gather and watch one of the recordings from a past webinar together. WIDIC members will have the opportunity to vote on what to watch every month! There will be additional time at the end blocked off for discussion and peer support.
Access to the Watch Parties will be available to all WIDIC members and anyone who has previously registered for the webinar, or purchased the recording. The Watch Parties will not be recorded.
For this month’s Watch Party, we are watching Weight-Inclusive Care for PCOS, originally presented by Sarah O’Hara, RD in April 2020.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder that is the leading cause of anovulatory infertility and a risk factor for long-term cardiometabolic complications. It is estimated that 5-10% of women worldwide have PCOS, and in the majority of cases nutrition therapy and weight loss are considered first-line treatment. Dietitians are often consulted for low-carbohydrate diets in PCOS management; more often than not, the referral reads “Weight Loss for PCOS.”
Anyone who has personally experienced this condition or has worked with clients with PCOS knows that long-term weight loss is the exception, not the rule, but what else do we have to offer as nutrition experts?
In this 60-minute webinar, you will learn:
- Essential knowledge of PCOS diagnosis, symptoms, reproductive implications, and long-term health risks.
- Why the first-line treatment recommendation to lose “5-10% of body weight” is harmful for those with PCOS, and how to better support your clients with PCOS using a weight-inclusive approach.
- Ethical considerations of weight loss for PCOS-related fertility challenges.
- Evidence-based, weight-inclusive nutrition and wellness recommendations for PCOS management.
- Recommended resources for dietitians and clients alike.
It’s a PCOS Double-Header!
