Watch Party – Anti-Oppressive, Trauma-Informed Care
Watch Parties are a dedicated time where we can gather and watch a past webinar recording together. There will be additional time at the end for discussion and peer support.
Access to the Watch Parties will be available to all WIDIC members and anyone who has previously registered for the webinar, or purchased the recording. The Watch Parties will not be recorded.
For this month’s Watch Party, we are watching Anti-Oppressive, Trauma-Informed Care presented by Alexandra Shewan of Selkie Counselling.
This webinar explores the role of systemic violence in trauma-informed care, how to build safety in relationships with clients, and how to mitigate the power that practitioners have over clients.
Topics discussed include:
- A historical and systemic review of anti-fat bias,
- The role of systemic violence in experiences of trauma,
- Techniques for building safety, and
- Self-reflection questions for practitioners to explore their own intersections of identity
