Watch Party: Trauma-Sensitive Feeding Strategies for Neurodivergent Families
Watch Parties are a dedicated time where we can gather and watch one of the recordings from a past webinar together. WIDIC members will have the opportunity to vote on what to watch every month! There will be additional time at the end blocked off for discussion and peer support.
Access to Watch Parties is available to all WIDIC members and anyone who has previously registered for the webinar, or purchased the recording. Watch Parties are not recorded.
For this month’s Watch Party, we are watching Trauma-Sensitive Feeding Strategies for Neurodivergent Families, originally presented by Naureen Hunani, RD in January 2021.
There is emerging research showing how neurodivergent children may be at a higher risk of experiencing traumatic stress symptoms. It is also known that neurodivergent children and youth are more likely to have feeding and eating struggles, creating unique and often stressful challenges for families. This webinar will provide dietitians with the basic knowledge necessary for developing trauma-informed practices sensitive to neurodivergent people’s unique needs.
You will learn:
- What is neurodiversity?
- Introduction to adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and complex developmental trauma
- Trauma and its impact on feeding and sensory processing
- Feeding challenges commonly seen in neurodivergent children and youth
- Harm reduction strategies aligned with Responsive Feeding Therapy
