
Webinar: Navigating Type 1 Diabetes and Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are prevalent in the type-1 diabetes population. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of resources or supports currently available for this combined population. Katie Bartel, RD and T1D, will discuss the challenges of diabetes therapy with regards to eating disorders, and provide suggestions on supporting this population towards recovery.
We will discuss:
- The statistics and etiology of eating disorders in the T1D population
- Diabulimia: a T1D-specific eating disorder
- Red flags for identifying ED in people with T1D
- T1D-specific screeners
- Strategies towards recovery

Katie Bartel
Katie Bartel has had type-1 diabetes for over 30 years. As a patient in the BC healthcare system, she saw several healthcare gaps related to this population, and a lack of resources for this population. It was her experience as a patient that drove her to leave a successful career as a newspaper journalist and become a registered dietitian – specifically to work with people with type-1 diabetes.
