Addressing Binge Eating with a Weight-Inclusive, Compassionate Approach

Webinar: Approaching Binge Eating with a Weight-Inclusive, Compassionate Approach

Binge eating is common for people who have dieted or restricted their intake in any way, and often leads to feelings of guilt, shame, and self-blame. Incorporating compassion is fundamental to healing the relationship with food and/or body.

Join Ann McConkey RD as she discusses some of the practices and ideas that she has found most helpful and healing in her 35 years of working with clients who experience binge eating.

You will learn to:

  • Guide people to eat enough food through the day
  • Help clients tune into their signals of hunger and satisfaction
  • Talk with clients about the intersection of emotional eating and binge eating
  • Encourage people to explore their relationship with food and body with curiosity, compassion, and acceptance

All registrants will receive access to the webinar recording, transcript, and resources.

    Ann McConkey

Ann McConkey RD recently retired from a long, rewarding career at Women’s Health Clinic (WHC), a feminist organization in Winnipeg. Beginning in 1985 and continuing throughout her career, she developed ways of working with people to help them overcome dieting, embrace eating all foods, question societal norms of body shapes and sizes and move toward acceptance of their own unique self. For the last 11 years she worked in the WHC community ED program mostly with Binge Eating Disorder clients.

Over her career Ann has given hundreds of presentations to community and professional groups promoting the use of a non-dieting, weight-inclusive approach. Ann incorporates feminist analysis, mindfulness, acceptance, weight inclusivity, compassion, and a sense of humour into her work.
